Make the most of your time at HLTH
5 tips for your conference experience
We’re less than six months from the fastest-growing healthcare innovation event, and it’s time to start preparing!
HLTH 2024, which is moving to the more intimate Venetian Expo Center this year, is one of the annual healthcare event calendar highlights. While last year’s theme was envisioning a better and healthier future through “Elevating Humanity,” this year’s theme calls us to “Be Bold!” as we step into healthcare’s future.
Over five days, keynote speakers, panels, fireside chats, and experiences will spotlight pivotal themes such as mental and behavioral health, AI, care delivery, the impact of GLP-1s, and patient experience. Attendees can look forward to engaging in discussions on these topics and more.
Whether this is your first or third time at HLTH, it can be a lot to unpack. Here are a few tips to get the most out of your HLTH 2024 experience in Las Vegas this October.
Here are the 5 things you should do to prepare for HLTH this October.
1. Look at the agenda ahead of time.
Pre-planning your ideal schedule of events and panels allows you to concentrate on the content, fostering a deeper understanding and retention of shared knowledge. Research suggests that preparation and intentionality can enhance cognitive absorption, making you more likely to remember and apply the insights gained.
There is an app, but it has its share of opportunities. We recommend screenshotting session information to move quickly from one place to the next!
2. Save time with built-in note-taking tools.
Use an AI tool, like Otter.ai, or better yet, use the AI-based notes summary for each session in the HLTH event app, which is auto-generated at the end of each session.
3. Plan your route.
This year, designated spaces are available for many purposes, including pavilions for AI, Oral Health, Food as Medicine, and more. Try to tackle one area each day instead of all at once!
4. Brush up on your AI lingo and programs.
It’s no secret that AI is everywhere and is in every session at conferences and congresses. You’ll hear about it a lot here, too – brush up on the lingo and functions of gen AI tools before landing so you know what they’re talking about.
That said, the pace of AI development is shattering Moore’s law. As we write this, we know that AI will be considerably more advanced when we all arrive at HLTH. Some companies have gone all-in on AI, while others have prohibited or limited its use. We’re all in different places, and it’s natural to feel overwhelmed by it or not to understand how it will all come together; hopefully, that will be one of the outcomes of the AI Pavilion, showing the potential of AI and machine learning tools to help solve some of the most significant healthcare challenges of our time. Our best advice is to play! Try new tools and prompts all the time, even if they don’t directly apply to your job today, whether tools like ChatGPT and Gemini or text-to-image generators like Dall-E or Midjourney. The more you play, the lower the learning curve.
5. Identify attendees you’d like to network with beforehand.
Networking is a crucial aspect of attending conferences like HLTH. With just three days to attend events, panels, and network, the more prep work you can do, the better. Looking ahead at who’s attending can save you time and stress on site. Think about messaging them and planning a meet-up ahead of time.
The super insider baseball tip is to consider the HLTH Market Connect (formerly Hosted Buyer), a 15-minute matched micro-meeting to engage with key decision-makers and providers. These are deeply rich opportunities to connect key players across the healthcare ecosystem. We’ve seen some incredible relationships grow out of these micro-moments. Better yet, if you’ve got a booth or another space to show and tell your story, you can continue those “high-value” conversations afterward!
That’s the end of our guide to making the most of your HLTH 2024. Remember, it’s all about diving in, soaking up knowledge, and making connections. Get your plan ready, stay curious, and enjoy every moment. We’ll see you there!
